Case Study - Project Yellow

The Business: A fuel distribution business in Nth Qld with $45M PA sales covering a wide geographic delivery service including roadhouses, serviced with a fleet of B-Doubles, Road Trains and barges.

The Brief: As Project Director and Board Advisor conduct an urgent analysis on the business to identify the financial status and cause of poor cash flow and define a turnaround strategy to stabilise the business as the 1st stage. The Directors were requested by the Bank to conduct an urgent review, with an external insolvency practitioner on notice, after the external accountants were unable to assist. The 2nd stage was to implement the strategy and operational and administration improvements to stabilise the business and to reduce cash loss.

The Business: A water and sewerage testing and analytical services laboratory integrated as a commercial division of a large public water utility. The lab was formerly owned by local government council.

The Brief: As Project Manager review the lab operations to determine methods to improve output and capacity constraints and causes of sub-optimal financial performance, and to implement solutions. Provide introductory training and awareness on 5S and Lean principles.

Employes 80 staff including geologists, mining engineers, consultants and metallurgists and specialises in mining processes, flotation, comminution and laboratory metallurgy analysis.

The Brief: As Project Manager working in the "Office of the CEO - Projects", assist the CEO and 5 GM's to review, identify, recommend and prioritise various within business improvement initiatives and assist implementation.

The Brief: As Interim GM, "lead the division turnaround, return to profitability fast, and position for divestment". Time frame for completion including divestment was 18 months.
